- About "UBE Biennale"

Ube City, a prosperous coal mining town has changed into an industrial city along with a rapid economic growth after World War II. Hence, social problems of juvenile misdeeds, environmental issues of pollution, and deteriorating morale of the people have become very serious. Thus, it was in 1960 that the locals initiated a greener campaign entitled "Dressing the City with Flowers". And Ube Biennale has been as part of this greener campaign ever since.
UBE Biennale has long history in the world, and draws an international attention as a leaping debut for sculptors. In 2011, UBE Biennale will celebrate its 50th anniversary aimed at a greater achievement and more remarkable recognition.
